1990-2001

Acerinox embarks on the construction of NAS together with a US partner (Armco) with which it enters into a 50/50 joint venture. Using the integrated plant in Cádiz as a reference at all times, in the first year of the decade the cold rolling mill started up, and during the last year of the decade, the melting shop; solid and constant growth of a factory that would end up becoming the most efficient factory in the market, thanks to which Acerinox became, and continues to be today, the leader of the American market.

1990

In April, Acerinox enters into a joint venture with Armco to commission North American Stainless (NAS). Immediately, land in Kentucky is purchased, and the first investments for the construction are approved. Furthermore, Acerinox acquires an ownership interest in Mexinox, S.A., and the Langerfeld service centre and the Venezuela representative office are inaugurated.

1992

The first sendzhimir at North American Stainless is brought into service. The first coil is processed for shipment from the factory's own port.

1994

Acerinox receives first prize of the Prince Felipe award in the Business Competitiveness and Internationalisation categories.

 

 Banco Bilbao Vizcaya joins the company's shareholders. With regard to the commercial network, the Singapore office is opened.

1996

Acerinox reaches 932,000 tonnes of steel production and is consolidated as the largest production plant in the world. In this year, 15,000 million pesetas (EUR 90 million) are invested in equipment.

In November the Oceania commercial branch is opened (Acerinox Australasia).

1998

North American Stainless processes its first hot-rolled coil. In that same year, the Pinto warehouse is opened and 25,000m2 of land are purchased to construct a new service centre in Gavá.

2000

Acerinox obtains historic records in its results, with billings of EUR 1,957 million (325,552 million pesetas) and profits after tax of EUR 287.5 million (47,839 million pesetas) which, to put it in context, is 2.3 times higher than the previous year.

1991

In June, the Madrid headquarters are moved to the building on Calle Santiago de Compostela, 100. In September, the service centre of Inoxidables de Euskadi, S.A. is inaugurated in Vitoria, Spain.

1993

An investment package totalling 8,000 million pesetas (EUR 49 million) is approved for the Acerinox Europa factory, which would be implemented over the next two years.

 

A representative office in Peru is inaugurated.

1995

The then Prince of Asturias, His Majesty Felipe de Borbón, inaugurates the AOD no. 2 and the sendzhimir no.5 at the Acerinox Europa factory.

 

In that same year, the construction of the Ohio dock at NAS is completed and a takeover bid for 99% of Roldán is made.

1997

The distribution and sales network is expanded with the construction of warehouses in Valladolid and Vigo and the opening of a local office in São Paulo (Brazil).

1999

Prince Felipe visits the North American Stainless factory in Kentucky. In his speech, he describes the factory as a “source of pride, as one of the largest Spanish investments abroad, with the most advanced technology that perfectly represents the modern and new Spanish reality".

2001

For the first time, production at Acerinox Europa exceeds one million tonnes, which is a milestone in the sector. Additionally, the surface area of the Betanzos and Vitoria centres is doubled. In that same year, Corporación Financiera Alba acquires 5% of the company’s capital for EUR 123 million.
